Study Says Foster Kids Are Drugged Far Too Often

This is something we have been trying to bring to light for a while now and finally we have some main stream media looking into it.

We have read a copy of the training pages from Florida DCF for working with "human research subjects" aka children, they are litterally training workers on how to use and abuse our children. This is enough to make me sick.

I have made this know to Governor Rick Scott, as well as DCF workers such as David Wilkins, Robin Jensen, Lisa Voigt, Brena Slater and many others.

I say we hold governments accountable for this heinous crime against humanity, no child is disposable.

Foster children are being prescribed cocktails of powerful antipsychosis drugs just as frequently as some of the most mentally disabled youngsters on Medicaid, a new study suggests.

The report, published today in the journal Pediatrics, is the first to investigate how often youngsters in foster care are given two antipsychotic drugs at once, the authors said. The drugs include Risperdal, Seroquel, and Zyprexa -- among other so-called major tranquilizers -- which were developed for schizophrenia but are now used as all-purpose drugs for almost any psychiatric symptoms.

"The kids in foster care may come from bad homes, but they do not have the sort of complex medical issues that those in the disabled population do," said Susan dosReis, an associate professor in the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and the lead author.

The implication, Ms. dosReis and other experts said: Doctors are treating foster children's behavioral problems with the same powerful drugs given to people with schizophrenia and severe bipolar disorder.

In recent years, doctors and policymakers have grown concerned about high rates of overall psychiatric drug use in the foster care system, the government-funded program that provides temporary living arrangements for between 400,000 and 500,000 children and adolescents. Previous studies have found that children in foster care receive psychiatric medications at about twice the rate among children outside the system.

The new study focused on one of the most powerful classes of drugs, antipsychotics. It found that about 2 percent of foster children take at least one such drug, even though schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, for which the drugs are approved, are extremely rare in young children.

DCF Tries To Rip Children Away From Grandfather Because He's Too Old

Cornelius Miller lost his 19-year-old daughter Corneisha a year ago after a brutal murder. Now, he may lose his two young grandsons to the Department of Children and Families. Authorities feel that 62-year-old Miller is too old and sick to care for three-year-old Jemarcus and 16-month-old Rodgerick, and instead want to put the children up for adoption.

Miller has helped raise the children since they were born, and they've always lived in his house. The children's mother was murdered by their father on March 18, 2010. The young children witnessed the killing. To say these kids have faced more than a lifetime of tragedy in their short existence is an understatement. Now the state wants to rip them from the only home they've ever known.

The state says that because of Miller's age and diabetes he's not a proper guardian. WSVN spoke to Miller. He plans to fight the decision, and made an impassioned plea to the already embroiled DCF.

"I love these kids," Miller told the station. "I loved my daughter, too. She was just taken away from me so early. She had so much potential. She would have fought for her kids herself. She's not here, and I have to do it. I do it because I love her, and I want them, and I'm gonna fight for them. If I have to take it to the Supreme Court, if I can do that, I will do that, anything."

"These decisions are not made by one person, but a team of people, including judges, guardian ad litems, case managers and others," read a DCF statement. "We are all tasked with making sure the best interest of the children are protected."

Miller will go to court in April to fight the decision, and Tampa attorney Melissa Cordon tells MyFoxTampaBay he has a good chance: "He does not have a criminal record, and he has been the caretaker of these children from birth. My personal opinion is that children should be placed with family members."

Misrepresentation "How DCF Stole my daughter"

• Target: All of us who believe that Justice is not reserved solely for the powerful

     I am writing to you with a heavy heart concerning my case against DCF and all the witnesses of DCF involved.  I was never able to conceive until 1997 when my only precious daughter, born prematurely, survived and entered my life.  Our life together, although fantastic, was not easy due to her various medical conditions; but she was/is the joy of my life!
     I was wrongfully accused by DCF and through a number of professional relationships that the opposing parties had, my daughter was taken from me or "Legally Kidnapped" by DCF.  The transcripts of my case were denied to be reviewed by the Supreme Court and also all of the concrete information regarding the cohesion and malicious intent of the opposing parties were never disclosed. 
     There is undeniable evidence that I was/am a good and competent mother.  Never less: DCF spun a web of so many lies and misrepresentations of the facts through their cohesive witnesses and the 'guardian at litem' that my child was forcefully taken from my life.
     My beautiful daughter is my entire life and I have been screaming from every hilltop for her return.  I wrote a letter to Gov.Bush and also Gov. Crist and they told me they understood and that I must keep fighting for Justice.  I have spoken to other families that have been torn apart and devastated by DCF.  Many of the mothers in my situation have stated that DCF's malicious abuse of power and privilege caused their lives to be torn apart. 
     I have contacted countless professionals seeking council and now am looking into filing a Federal Lawsuit against DCF and their blatant disregard for my family's Civil Rights.  Please, please, please, don't turn a blind eye to the "Legal Kidnapping" that many women, mostly of whom do not have the financial means to fight in Court, have endured. 
    Please put yourself in my place for a moment:  can you feel the pain, all of the tears, the sleeplessness, the constant fear that her life may be in danger.  No one... and I mean no child and mother need never be subjected to this torment due to our position social-economic status that lacks the power and money to fight back!
     Due to (The Dept. of Children and Families) blatant abuse of power and the flagrant disregard for my daughter's Civil Rights: she is suffering physical, emotional, and spiritual anguish.
          In a case with similar immediate circumstances: today, Thursday, May, 22nd, 2008, the Texas Court of appeals found that their state's Child Protective Services Department unlawfully removed hundreds of children without proper evidence.  "Essentially this decision from the Third Court of Appeals said that Child Protective Services had absolutely no evidence that would justify them going in there and removing these children from this household," said Cynthia Martinez, who represents 48 of the mothers whose children were removed.  This is exactly the kind of "hear-say" evidence that allowed my child to be unlawfully removed in the first place and I should be granted the same outcome due to the unopposed healthy and happy physical and mental status of my child at the time of her "abduction".
     It will be a travesty if the Florida Department of Appeals does not give my child the same standard of proof required by the Texas Dept. of Appeals in their judgment that their was a clear "lack of evidence" which is required if the Dept. of Children's Affairs wants to remove a child from their mother.

LAKELAND | Clarissa Johnson says she never found the perfect home for the ashes of her first child, Michael, who was born three months premature and died from complications of a bowel obstruction.

Now after four years, the 20-year-old Lakeland woman must deal with the ashes of another son, Zachary, who police say was violently shaken to death while in the temporary care of his maternal aunt and her husband, Mysti and Matthew Wyrosdick.

Prosecutors on Thursday upgraded charges against Matthew Wyrosdick to aggravated manslaughter of a child, a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. He is being held in the Polk County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Johnson was at a loss for words Thursday to describe her emotions over the death of her youngest son, Zachary, a precocious toddler taken from her eight months ago after she and her husband, Gene, were jailed on July 26 and were charged with stealing a car and money from an elderly relative.

Zachary's death on March 13 from injuries suffered a day earlier has been the focus of an investigation by law enforcement and the Department of Children & Families, whose errors in the case are outlined in a 14-page summary included with some 500 pages of DCF documents released Tuesday to the public.

Among those errors - DCF took too long to reunite Zachary and his brother, Austin, 2, with the Johnsons.

DCF also faults staff members at Educare Early Learning Center in South Lakeland who photographed numerous marks and bruises on Zachary while the boy was in temporary custody but never alerted authorities of their concerns.

Additionally, she would work with some unscrupulous businesses to convert food stamps into cash which she and the businesses would pocket. Additionally, Meera Khan would collect "insurance premiums", "processing fees", "application fees", "renewal fees" or "filing fees" for the processing and receipt of State of Florida Medicaid program benefits. The total loss to the people of Florida is estimated to be $1.3 million dollars.

The Department of Children & Families needs to be investigated thoroughly. There are things that go on that are very questionable and raises questions about the safety of the children in the foster care system.

The Department of Children & Families needs to be investigated thoroughly. There are things that go on that are very questionable and raises questions about the safety of the children in the foster care system. They wait way to long before removing children from bad situations which will affect them for life. The paperwork that is misfiled, lost or even submitted improperly raises questions about the compendence of some of the licensed workers., .. which scares the hell out of me!

 

I started doing fostercare about 3 years ago. I took the required MAPP classes and my paperwork was lost so I had to take the classes all over again. While taking the classes you are mislead VERY much and are told alot of untrue statements. Most of the people who do fostercare are with the intent to adopt the right child that is a good fit with there family.

Your hopes are very high about being placed with a child so you just follow the rules so you think, most of them are madeup as the social workers go along. Not everything will apply for all foster parents, some are favored and get the nicer children. If you ask questions and do not play by there rules , you will be placed with a child from HELL.

 

I was placed with a child who had SEVERE behavior problems, Depression, sexually abused, bipolar and was abusive, so severe that I am still recovering from it emotionally. When I asked for help I was told that I had to wait until the services were approved by the judge. Meanwhile me and my husband were hit, bit and abused. I finally had them removed the child from our home and now the child is in a residental home for viloant children.

The state of Florida DOES NOT reimburst you for all the money you put into the child. $380.00 month does NOT buy what the child needs and wants or any special services that the child might need.

My hopes of adopting a child from the fostercare system have been tarnished. I will never do fostercare ever again or have any dealing with DCF. Maybe in the future the fostercare homes will report any abuse and get theses kids the help that they need early in there little lives.

 

I am currently going through an adoption agency and have not been mislead about anything. May GOD Bless these children who wait for homes.

INVERNESS --  Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy is on a mission and he has a blunt reason for it.
"This action that the state is taking right now endangers your kids.”

Sheriff Dawsy is making a push in Tallahassee to restore a contract with the Citrus Co. Sheriff's Office and the Florida Dept. of Children and Families to retain control of child protection services in Citrus County.

The sheriff's office has had the contract since 2007, but it was cancelled this last legislative session.

“Remember, this was a budgetary item, not a personal issue," Former Citrus County Sheriff and current State Sen. Charlie Dean said.

Sen. Dean supported cancelling the contract as a way to balance the budget.

Sheriff Dawsy said he believes if Sen. Dean will change his mind, the funding will return to his department. He said he doesn’t believe it’s about the money.

In fact, he believes his agency can provide more for the money than the state can.

In paperwork provided by the sheriff, the agency was rated in the top three percent by state evaluators and has the highest ratio of seeing children in the first 24 hours after a complaint.

“It’s all about the kids," Sheriff Dawsy said. "It has nothing to do whether or not some legislator doesn’t like me or if he does like me.  This is a good business practice.”

“Every child is going to be protected," Sen. Dean said. "Every child is going to be looked into. That’s our responsibility.”


 Sheriff Dawsy believes it matters who is looking after the kids in the county.

Dean said it was a choice between funding the contract with the sheriff's office or a mental hospital in Baker County.

Having DCF handle child protection services isn't unheard of. Six other counties in Florida already have the system in place.
